Mark your calendars for the hottest night of the week as Berkeley Ballroom (our social sister group to Cal Ballroom) brings West Coast Fever to Cal campus! This annual celebration features a free beginning West Coast Swing lesson given by followed by plenty of social dancing time. At the conclusion of our night we will have spectacular dance showcases for ballroom standard and latin dancing. This is the perfect opportunity for those who are interested in learning more about the ballroom dance community here on campus, individuals interested in joining our competitive team, or students who simply want to enjoy a cool summer evening before classes begin! As always, no partner or experience are necessary, though both are welcome as well. Wear comfortable clothing and be prepared to dance. Be sure to stay for the International Standard and International Latin showcases at the end of the night!
FREE DANCE CLASSES
Who: Classes are open to everyone! Bring friends, questions about the team, socks, and lots and lots of energy!
What: Come try out ballroom dancing every night 8/29-9/1 for free! Learn 8 of the 10 ballroom dances. Each night will have dance lessons, social dancing, followed by dance showcases for the style of dance learned.
When: 8pm – 10pm each evening during welcome week trials for Cal Ballroom
Where: Hearst Gym rooms 234 and 237, the Cal Ballroom team’s practice rooms!
*note: our floors have recently been renovated and are beautiful, so please do your best to wear shoes that will not damage the floors!
Waltz and Chacha (8/29)

The classic Waltz will be followed by the sensual Chacha!
Quickstep and Rumba(8/30)

The sexy Rumba, another Latin dance, will be followed by the fun and fast Quickstep!
Foxtrot and Samba (8/31)

The all American Foxtrot will be taught with the ballroom twist on the Brazilian samba!
Tango and Jive (9/1)

The saucy tango and jumping jive will be taught on this day!
This is the last of our free welcome week lessons, but for those interested in joining the team, please return for team practices and the informational meeting on Saturday! For those interested in continuing to dance without the commitment of joining the team, social dance classes will also be provided during the semester.
TEAM INFORMATIONAL MEETING
At 1:00pm on Saturday in Hearst 234, we will have an informational meeting for all interested in dancing longer with the team! We’ll answer all questions here. Feel free to stay longer and keep practicing with the team as well!
